It’s 4:17 a.m. I have insomnia (again). You know that you’re up early when you see the city garbage truck driving by outside. When I’ve struggled with insomnia, I’ve tried all the things that are supposed to help you sleep:

  • all the lights are out and thick, black-out curtains are hung up above the windows to block any light from outside;
  • a hot bath (sometimes a bubble bath or one with Epsom salt);
  • only one cup of coffee in the morning (usually! I try to drink decaf if I have a coffee in the afternoon);
  • I try to eat healthy (not always – my weakness is sugar!) and to take good vitamins, minerals, & probiotics;
  • journaling (it can help to create a to-do list or just write my thoughts and feelings);
  • no electronics in the bedroom (except my phone – I do watch vlogs on YouTube for entertainment before bed and use my iPhone for my alarm);
  • Melatonin (it only works sometimes and often gives me weird dreams);
  • I’ve tried eating turkey shortly before bed (it has the amino acid called tryptophan that makes you drowsy, but I can’t eat turkey every day);
  • listening to worship and praise, Bible Scriptures readings, and/or ocean relaxation videos, etc. (sometimes these work);
  • Praying (this doesn’t usually put me to sleep, but I feel like at least I’m being productive when I do it!);
  • Probably the only thing I haven’t tried is consistent exercise, but we won’t talk about that right now! I know I need to!

What are your best tips for overcoming insomnia?

One thing on my mind tonight is that I can’t figure out how to change the background color of my past blog posts with this new WordPress website theme (Themegrove). I’ve asked my VA to see if she can fix it, but of course she has many other clients and is booked until a week from now, when I have an appointment scheduled with her for something else. I so wish that I could figure it out!

Right now if you look at my past blog posts, you’ll see a black background and either white or black colored text. I just want a white background with black text, like this one has. (I finally figured it out the other night and created a new template for blog posts in order to accomplish this, but the past blog posts are still messed up with a black background! It’s the normal way blog posts look for this template, but I want to change it.)

There’s a couple other minor things that need to be tweaked, too, which are driving me crazy. I’m not pointing them out if you don’t see them…working on it!

Thanks for being patient with me while I wait this out. Meanwhile, you can check out the rest of the website. You can sign up for my newest updates at the bottom of the home page here.

Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
